Jephnei Orina Builds a Career in US Law and Academia

Jephnei Orina, a 30-year-old Kenyan legal scholar and practitioner, is the founder of a US-based law firm and lectures at two American universities.
Born and raised in Kisii County, western Kenya, Orina began his academic career studying education at Kisii University, where he later worked as a lecturer. His interest in governance and legal reform led him to Nairobi, where he pursued degrees in Law and Business Administration at the University of Nairobi.
This combination of disciplines laid the groundwork for his future legal and business ventures abroad. Orina later moved to the United States to further his legal studies, earning a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Northeastern University, followed by a doctoral degree.
He now holds six academic qualifications, reflecting a sustained commitment to both scholarship and professional growth. In 2022, Orina contested the presidential primaries under Kenya’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), challenging then Deputy President William Ruto for the party’s nomination.
Though unsuccessful, his participation marked an effort to bring legal perspectives into national politics. He has since reaffirmed his long-term political goals, citing a desire to improve legal systems and public welfare in Kenya.
Orina currently heads Orina Law P.C., a law firm based in the United States that focuses on immigration, family law, corporate governance, litigation, and AI data privacy. His clients are primarily Kenyans and other African nationals navigating the US legal system.
Through his practice, he advises on legal compliance and helps clients avoid preventable issues related to immigration status. Alongside his legal work, Orina teaches at two American universities, balancing academic instruction with professional practice.
