Man Rescued from Dubai Ends Up Homeless in Kenya

A Kenyan man who was rescued from the streets of Dubai and given a return ticket to his home country has found himself in the same difficult situation five months later.

Recent footage shared by VooTV depicts the young man named Tony sheltering beneath a makeshift plastic covering on a Nairobi street, his appearance and demeanour indicating significant hardship. Tony reached out to VooTV for assistance after being abandoned by an employment agency in Dubai. The subsequent fundraising campaign successfully garnered Sh 51,600 from compassionate Kenyans, covering his return airfare of Sh 39,600 and providing additional funds intended to support his reintegration into Kenya

Upon his return, Tony had expressed optimism about rebuilding his life and supporting his young family. He had even articulated intentions to engage with government officials, specifically Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, regarding the prevalent issue of Kenyan workers being abandoned abroad by unscrupulous agencies. However, despite these aspirations and the initial community support, Tony's situation has regrettably deteriorated, leaving many observers disheartened.

This case exemplifies a broader pattern affecting many Kenyans who venture abroad in search of employment opportunities, particularly in the Middle East. Many face exploitation, harsh working conditions, and abandonment by recruitment agencies. Tony's experience parallels other cases, such as that of Immaculate Njeri who returned from a decade of work in the Gulf only to discover her savings had been depleted by her son, leaving her homeless.

Many Arab World returnees experience PTSD and anxiety due to the inhumane treatment they experienced. They continue to suffer in silence while Ruto's government is continuing to woo those oil-rich countries to let more of our people in. Sad.
