Police in New Delhi, India have arrested a Kenyan woman over the death of her female compatriot.

The deceased, only identified as Annsam, 45, allegedly succumbed to a deep knife wound on her chest at her house in Mehrauli, South Delhi on Monday night.

Police reports showed Annsam had lived in India for less than 12 months.

“She was sharing the flat with six or seven other women from her country,” deputy commissioner of police (south) Vijay Kumar told hundastantimes website.

Police said they did not find the deceased's passport, visa and mobile phone in her residence.

Police said the suspect, who was the deceased's flatmate, was arrested to help with the investigations.

Detectives suspect she was involved in the crime due to some bruises on her body.

Officers are also holding a Kenyan man believed to be the suspect's boyfriend.

The boyfriend reportedly told police that the two Kenyan women quarreled over a bottle of beer.

The two are said to have been in the house during the incident.
