Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition party presidential running mate Martha Karua has disclosed that she is worth Sh150 million.
Karua made the revelation on Tuesday evening during the second-tier Deputy Presidential Debate at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa where she faced off with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party running mate Rigathi Gachagua.
She says her net worth increased from the Sh56 million she had declared while running for the presidency in 2013 due to inflation.
"I think (I am worth) about Ksh150 million and that is because the Ksh56 million I had declared in 2013 has appreciated because of the inflation. I haven't had any new properties but I'm a person many may not understand. I am not thirsty for land, I am not thirsty for worldly goods. I am happy to have a house I call home, I am happy to have a house in my father's land. I'm not hungry to amass wealth. I'm hungry to do something to help my country to transform the lives of the people," Karua said.
"If you are looking at Martha Karua to be a billionaire, no. I am not hungry for billions.”
On his part, Gachagua denied claims that he is a billionaire, saying that he is worth about Sh800 million which he made during the reign of the late president Mwai Kibaki when the economy was thriving.
He said the wealth excludes the Sh200 million that was frozen by the High Court in 2020 as the government questioned the source of Sh12.5 billion that allegedly passed through his bank accounts between 2013 and 2020.
“I worked in the Ministry of Lands and Settlement – Sh10 million. I worked in Kenya power Sh33million, I worked at the Ministry of Livestock for another Sh46 million. I worked in another organization I got up to 200 million,” said Gachagua.
“I don’t have billions…I am worth Sh800 million minus the Sh200 million, he stated.

Did Rigathi tell the truth about his net worth? Shs 12 billion are in frozen accounts but he disassociated himself with that money, but he still wants the money back soon to complete his village house.
Never judge a book by it's cover. Gachagua shocked a lot of Kenyans. A lot of people thought this would have been easy for Karua but we. Gachagua came with facts
Gachagua exposed the intent of the president that his endorsees' will continue and protect his legacy. By this he will also be active in decision making like Obama in 6iden admin. Gachagua defeated Martha Karua ruthlessly
MWAKILISHI ya Owino ndio moto.
How come both thugs did not disclose amounts they ATE by corruptly increasing their salaries in parliament? How come mrs.Njoka did not mention the shs 17m. bribe by BAT or shs 200m.recently bribed by Sonko to remain silent when he briefly joined Kuzimia to run in Mombasa? How come Rigathi never mentioned billions he raked as Uhuru’s personal assistant? He should also have disclosed the amount Raila’s paid for cannibalizing his expired brother,Nderitu’s rotten pancreas which landed him to SA hospital-ICU.
Did thief Gachagua forget about his Sh 12 billion that will get unfrozen once he is elected?
Like him or not,Gachagua was unexpectably good. He was eloquent and convincing in his statements regarding Uhuru's true intentions. I was expecting Karua to have a walk over but that's not the way it turned out. Even though, he still sounds crafty, like a man with some heavy skeletons in the closet compared to Martha's simple and clean closet.
Gachagua, Ruto are in the fight of their lives. They know that if AZIMIO- RARUA wins, they are done for. They know they have lost favor with the Kenyattas and will do anything to bring them down. They know that once in power RARUA will go after them and the many Kenyans who have sucked the public coffers dry. Many who are still in government na wanajijua. The money that is being spent in UDA right now is massive amount. They know its a do or die affair. UDA knows they will easily recover the campaign money once they get in power. Azimio better not relax and sleep on the job. It is also a fight for the lives of Kenyans who truly want change. Unfortunately, with every Tom, Dick and Harry involved in some corrupt deal somewhere, UDA will take the day. Kenyans are simply not tired enough, Kenyans are simply not angry enough at corruption. UDA is capitalizing on this. It was easy for Kenyans to come together and kick Moi out, but it will be a tall order keeping Ruto and Gachagua out of power. Kenyans relax at your own peril. Ruto and Gachagua ain't sleeping. They and their corrupt asaociates will do ANYTHING to get in power. As far as I know this election may have already been won 15 days to elections.
Any reasonable person can clearly there some lies in what Gachagua is saying
