The Kenyan government through Information Communication Technology Cabinet Secretary, Joe Mucheru has threatened to shut down media house that will release provisional results during the forthcoming general elections.
CS Mucheru cautioned media houses not to announce results, saying the mandate to announce is only bestowed on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
In the past, media houses have announced provisional results at constituency tallying centers before the results have been officially certified by the IEBC.
The CS's warning comes even as the opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) maintains that it must have a parallel tallying centre to make sure that results are not manipulated.
The Court of Appeal sitting in Nairobi ruled that presidential elections announced at the constituency tallying centres will be final, with IEBC chairman only declaring the winner.
