Ethiopia Announces it is Developing Cure for Coronavirus

Ethiopia on Thursday announced it is developing a cure for coronavirus (Covid-19).

The country’s Ministry of Health (MoH) and Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MoIT) said experts were developing what they termed as "a domestic treatment drug."

The two ministries, in a joint statement, announced that the drug is being prepared by traditional medicine experts by integrating indigenous traditional medical knowledge with modern science.

The drug has already passed through the basic research procedures and was successful in the laboratory modeling processes, the two ministries added.

“Since the outbreak of the pandemic, research had been going on by different Ethiopian scientists both in the country and abroad. We are seeing good results and further outcomes will be revealed to the public in the short term," said MoIT minister Abraham Belay.

He added: “It has passed through various testing stages and now the green light has been given for further clinical trial. The next step is testing the product.”

Belay noted that the research has met all World Health Organization (WHO) standards and the drug is expected to cure patients by boosting their immunity and has been proven to be free of toxicity.
