Sports Fraternity Mourns Former Gor Mahia Star Caesar Handa

Former Gor Mahia player Caesar Handa has been eulogised as a committed athlete and a writer who made a positive impact on many lives.

Caesar Handa, 59, tragically passed away at Nairobi Hospital on Wednesday at 4 am. He had been admitted to the hospital after a fall at his residence in Kileleshwa. Surprisingly, Caesar was not ill, making his sudden demise a shock to his close friends who had spent time with him just the previous day. Caesar had been associated with Gor Mahia as a player from 1989 to 1992. Furthermore, he attended the University of Nairobi from 1987 to 1989 and pursued his Masters at Missouri University in the United States between 1995 and 1997.

Handa had a dual career, not only as a football player but also as a sports columnist for the Standard Newspaper. Moreover, he had ownership of a research and public relations firm in Nairobi which specialized in political research and conducting opinion polls. Handa's dedication to football did not go unnoticed, as he was chosen by former Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed to be a part of the Football Kenya Federation Transition Committee in 2022. Additionally, he held the positions of Chairman in the Referees Committee and Secretary in the Gor Mahia Legends Welfare Group.

ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo recently had a detailed conversation with Handa regarding the use of drones for e-commerce deliveries for the Postal Corporation of Kenya. Austin Oduor, a respected figure in Gor Mahia, describes Handa as a gentleman who should have had a longer life. Others who paid their respects to Handa include , former Kenya Police coach John Bobby Ogolla, former player Mike Otieno, radio host Joseph Ogidi as well as other former players and coaches. Handa is survived by his wife and five children.
