Kuria Criticizes Duale Over Ethnic Remarks, Warns of Divisive Politics

Former presidential advisor Moses Kuria has strongly condemned Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale over remarks that critics say fuel ethnic divisions.

The response  stems from comments made by Duale in Garissa, which many interpreted as targeting the politically significant Mt Kenya region. In his speech, Duale criticized what he described as an era of "ethnic entitlement." He challenged any notion of one community being superior to others, stating that the 2010 Constitution and the decentralisation brought by devolution had made such ideas outdated.

However, his words have sparked backlash, particularly from Kuria, who has defended the Mt Kenya community in a series of social media posts. Kuria accuses Duale of perpetuating regional vilification and cites similar remarks from other politicians, including Tiaty MP William Kamket and Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago.

Kuria argues that such comments unfairly target entire regions based on the actions of a few individuals, which he warns could have serious consequences for national unity. He further dismisses claims of ethnic dominance, offering to repay any perceived debts attributed to the Mt Kenya community.

This is not the first public clash between Kuria and Duale. Earlier this month, Kuria criticized Duale over comments regarding the citizenship of Swarup Mishra, a hospital owner accused in an organ trafficking case. Kuria argued that such statements, which fell outside the Health Ministry’s scope, could harm investor confidence and undermine due process.
