Orengo Makes First Public Appearance After Prolonged Absence

Siaya County is currently facing increased scrutiny as Governor James Orengo remains conspicuously absent from public duties, prompting growing speculation among residents and political observers. 

Mr. Ogutu, the County Director of Communications, has confirmed that Governor Orengo is currently engaged in private matters directly related to his executive role. However, citing confidentiality protocols and directives from the County Speaker, Ogutu declined to provide specific details. 

"The nature of the business remains private and therefore, I cannot comment on the same," he said, emphasising the confidential nature of government operations.

Ogutu's reticence regarding a timeline for Orengo’s return has exacerbated public uncertainty, especially given the governor's noticeably reduced participation in recent county events. This information vacuum has spawned numerous rumours, with particular focus on Orengo's health and his position within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Concerns escalated further following the circulation of a fabricated letter dated 4 August 2025. The letter falsely claimed that Orengo had resigned from the ODM due to personal health issues, citing consultations with family and medical professionals. The ODM swiftly refuted the document.

"We can authoritatively state that the letter below is fake. Ignore it and focus," the ODM said in an official statement, aiming to quell the misinformation.
