Jimi Wanjigi Alleges DCI Presence Outside His Muthaiga Residence, Shares CCTV Footage

Businessman and opposition figure Jimi Wanjigi has claimed that the government orchestrated a surveillance operation outside his residence on Saba Saba Day, a date of historical significance for pro-democracy activism.
Wanjigi has released CCTV footage purportedly showing two unmarked civilian vehicles stationed outside his Muthaiga home. He characterises the incident as a deliberate attempt to suppress dissent by state security agencies, a claim the government has yet to address. The timing of the alleged surveillance coincides with nationwide demonstrations commemorating the 1990 Saba Saba protests, adding fuel to accusations of political intimidation.
"DCI at my home today Saba Saba! All this has to stop! Ruto must resign," Wanjigi declared via social media.
This incident is not the first time Wanjigi's residence has been the focus of police activity. On 8 August 2024, armed officers surrounded his home following the arrival of a mysterious black vehicle. His son remarked, "It seems whenever we are a threat to them, they decide to raid us," underscoring a pattern of perceived political targeting.
These events occurred as thousands of demonstrators defied roadblocks and security crackdowns to participate in Saba Saba Day protests across the country. Protest organisers said that the demonstrations aim to compel the government to address pressing socio-economic grievances. In towns such as Kitengela and Kisii, protestors reportedly overwhelmed police barricades.
Political rhetoric has also escalated with Kapsaret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi issued a stark warning to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of financing the protests and suggesting his arrest is imminent.
"After apprehending all of them, we will come for you," Sudi said, indicating a hardening stance against opposition figures.
