Ruto's Presidential Escort Team Injured as Car Overturns in Naivasha

At least four members of President William Ruto's escort team were injured after their official car rolled in Naivasha.
According to the police, the accident took place on Mlima Nugu, located on the Moi South Lake road as the car was driving back to Nairobi, according to police. President Ruto had been in Naivasha to flag off the 2023 WRC Safari Rally, a precursor for the main event to be held this weekend. Witnesses reported that the driver of the Presidential Escort Unit motorcade lost control while navigating a sharp bend on the route.
The police reported that the Head of State was absent from the convoy. He had flown to Naivasha for the Safari Rally and then returned by air. Dr Ruto was apprised of the accident. He had flown to the Loldia spectator's point by helicopter, the police stated.
The area was quickly sealed off by armed presidential security guards and the elite General Service Unit (GSU) who had been informed of the incident. The injured were taken to the hospital and are now reported to be in stable condition. The President is usually accompanied by a dedicated team of officers, known as the Presidential Escort Unit and Presidential Guard. The President has almost 200 officers serving in his security ring.
