Former Communications Authority Director General Francis Wangusi Dies at Nairobi Hospital

Former Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) Director General Francis Wangusi is dead.

Wangusi passed away on Wednesday at Nairobi Hospital where he was undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), according to the family.

His death was confirmed by Stephen Mutoro, the Secretary General of the Consumers Federation of Kenya, who said he has been ailing for some time.

“With a heavy heart, I am devastated to have to announce the death of my brother Francis Wangusi, the immediate former substantive Director General of @CA_Kenya. Mr Wangusi has been ailing. He had been admitted to the ICU at the Nairobi Hospital. God gives and takes. RIP," Mutoro said on Twitter.

Reports indicate that Wangusi was undergoing chemotherapy.

Wangusi was first appointed as the Director General of the Communications Authority of Kenya in 2012 for a three-year period. He was reappointed to the position in 2015 for a term of four years.

In 2018, the Communications Authority of Kenya board sent him on compulsory leave to pave way for investigations into alleged malpractice in staff training and promotions at the agency.

During his tenure at CA, the deceased oversaw significant milestones in the ICT industry, including the transition to digital television broadcasting and the sector’s exponential growth.

Before joining CA, Wangusi served in various capacities at the then Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK).
