Kanu Chairman and former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has withdrawn his candidature for the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) seat.

Moi, who unsuccessfully defended his Baringo senatorial seat in the August 9th general election, dropped out of the race to give other contenders an opportunity to win the positions, Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition spokesperson Fredrick Okango said.

"Moi has since withdrawn his candidature so as to give the opportunity to the other candidates. He wishes them the best of luck in their endeavors," read part of the statement.

Moi, who had been nominated to the EALA position alongside Kanu’s Secretary-General Nick Salat, thanked his party and the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition for the "opportunity and trust".

Meanwhile, the ODM party has unveiled its five nominees for the EALA seats including Raila Odinga’s daughter Winnie Odinga, businessman Suleiman Shahbal, Mohammed Diriye, Timothy Bosire, Beatrice Askul and Justus Kizito.

On the other hand, President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance has nominated 15 persons for membership in the EALA including former nominated MP David Sankok, former Mombasa senator Hassan Omar, and former Mbalambala and EALA MP Abdikadir Aden.

Others are Zipporah Kering, Fredrick Muteti, lawyer Okengo Nyambane, former Nominated Senator Falhada Dekow, Jonas Kuko, former Igembe Central MP Cyprian Kubai, former West Pokot Women Rep. Lilian Cheptoo, Anne Too, Rebecca Merikeju, Godfrey Maina Karobia, Yasser Ali Sheikh, and Salim Mohammed Busidy (Lamu).

Only nine—five from Kenya Kwanza and four from the Azimio La Umoja coalition—will be chosen to serve in the Arusha-based assembly.

The National Assembly is expected to vote to confirm nine members of the East African Legislative Assembly on November 17th.
