Raila's 'Azimio La Umoja' Movement to be Registered as a Coalition Party

ODM leader Raila Odinga’s ‘Azimio La Umoja’ movement is set to be registered as a coalition party next week.

This follows the signing of the recently enacted Political Parties (Amendment) Bill, 2021 by President Kenyatta on Wednesday.

Odinga, who will be giving his fifth stab at the presidency this year, says the registration of ‘Azimio La Umoja’ will mark the beginning of his bid to unite the country ahead of the August 9th elections.

"I'm happy that you people have joined ODM which is a member of the new group we are forming; Azimio la Umoja... Azimio la Umoja is going to be registered next week if not tomorrow... and we will start moving. Mtaona mambo mengi ikifanyika," said Raila.

Odinga, who spoke on Thursday at Chungwa House where he received defectors from ANC party, also downplayed the newfound political dalliance between Deputy President, William Ruto, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford-Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula, terming it an outfit of "birds of the same feather" with no better motive to serve Kenyans.

"Wale wengine wanabwekabweka.... nani amekufunga wewe? Kama unataka kwenda, kwenda kabisa...kwenda kabisa wazungu wanasema 'birds of the same feather flock together', kuna kitu ambayo inaunganisha hawa watu pamoja... si nyinyi mnajua?" posed Odinga.

“Tutatembea pamoja na wale wako na sera kama sisi. Kenya hii itachemka. Acheni kutishwa na hawa watu. Hii ni taka taka."

At the same time, he warned his competitors to brace themselves for a tough political showdown starting next week.
