Kenya Gets 834,130 Doses of Pfizer Vaccine from the US

The US government has donated 834,130 doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine to Kenya to boost the ongoing vaccination program.

The consignment arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Friday evening and was received by Port Health Officer in charge at JKIA Benjamin Murkomen, head of diplomacy at the US embassy Eric Watnik, and UNICEF Chief of Health Dr. Yaron Walman among others.

The arrival of the vaccines will boost the Health Ministry’s plan to vaccinate teenagers aged between 12 and 18 years.

The Pharmacy and Poisons Board recently gave emergency use authorization for the administration of Pfizer vaccines for persons aged 12 years and above as recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe says it is important to vaccinate this group in order to reduce their chances of transmitting the virus.

Kenya plans to inoculate at least 10 million Kenyans before the end of next month and 30 million people by the end of 2022.

The country has so far received 10.7 million Covid-19 vaccine doses of which 6.4 million have been administered.
