Kenya Receives More Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccines from the US

Kenya has received 210,000 more doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine from the United States to boost the ongoing vaccination exercise.

The consignment arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Tuesday morning from the COVAX facility.

This is the second batch of the Pfizer vaccine donated by the US to arrive in the country after the first delivery consisting 795,600 doses landed on September 17th.

The third and final consignment is expected to be delivered in the coming weeks to complete the 2.03 million Pfizer vaccine doses the US government pledged to donate to Kenya.

Kenya also received a donation of 880,320 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine from the US government this month.

This was the second tranche of Moderna vaccines to arrive in the country, bringing the total number of donated Moderna vaccines to 1.76 million doses.

US President Joe Biden committed to donate more than a billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines to countries across the world.

The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are among the six coronavirus jabs approved by the World Health Organization for emergency use.

Kenya has so far received five types of vaccines including AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, Pfizer, and China’s Sinopharm.
