Three Suspects Busted Burying Woman's Body in a Shallow Grave at Mombasa Cemetery

Police in Mombasa are holding three people who were found burying a woman’s body in a shallow grave at Kongowea Cemetery.

Collins Okoth from Shanzu and two other suspects are said to have driven to the cemetery on Sunday morning in a vehicle without number plates.

They were carrying the body of a woman believed to be Okoth’s late wife Mary Mwende.

The three then dug a shallow grave and started burying the body of the woman but area residents became suspicious and alerted police.

The suspects were arrested for burying the woman without the necessary documents and approvals.

Upon interrogation, Okoth allegedly told police that his wife has been sick for a while, and due to his financial status, he could not afford to give her a decent send-off.

Confirming the incident, Nyali Sub-County police commander Daniel Masaba said investigations are underway to establish the motive behind the unauthorized burial.

After the police left the cemetery, residents exhumed the body that had been put in a sack. The remains were later taken to Coast General Hospital mortuary.
