Kenyan Man Accused of Slitting Son’s Throat Arrested While Preparing to Board Qatar-bound Flight

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a man accused of murdering his son.
Nehemiah Asiago, 41, was nabbed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Friday while preparing to board a Qatar-bound flight.
He is alleged to have killed his son Byron Asiago by slitting his throat using a kitchen knife following a domestic squabble at their home in Suneka, Kisii County in June 2020.
The suspect went into hiding after the incident and has been engaging homicide detectives in a cat and mouse game for months.
“Byron’s brother told detectives that a disagreement arose after their father who was intoxicated, demanded to know what he had brought home from his day at the local center. Incensed by his father’s remarks since he was jobless and had gone to look for a job that didn’t come by, Byron posed a similar question to his father, asking him what he had to show for his day’s activities other than returning home in a drunken stupor. This prompted a scuffle, that led to his death,” the DCI said.
The DCI said the suspect had been secretly operating between Nakuru and Nairobi until Friday afternoon when detectives busted him as he tried to flee the country.
Asiago is being detained pending arraignment in court next week to face murder charges.
