The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) head George Kinoti says the late Keroche Breweries Director Tecra Muigai was murdered.
Kinoti noted that the DCI has sufficient evidence to prove that Tecra, who died at the Nairobi Hospital early last month after allegedly falling down the stairs at a holiday home in Lamu, was killed.
“We have enough evidence to prove that it was murder,” Kinoti is quoted by The Standard.
Tecra’s boyfriend Omar Lali was last Wednesday freed on a bond of Sh300,000 after spending 21 days in police custody following his arrest in connection with his lover’s death.
Omar, 51, was living with Tecra at the Lamu holiday home and was in the house on the night she reportedly tumbled down the staircases.
An autopsy showed Tecra succumbed to injuries she suffered on the left side of her head, which were consistent with a fall down the stairs.
While families of both Tecra and Omar agreed she died as a result of a fall, they could not agree on what caused the fall. The former believe she was pushed but the latter insist her fall was purely accidental.
Police, on the other hand, said Tecra and Omar had an argument after a night of drinking and merry-making, according to The Standard. The argument turned physical and Omar hit her and she fell down a flight of stairs.
Omar maintains Tecra’s death was accidental as he remembers getting into the house, having dinner, taking some vodka, and sleeping on the couch only to be woken up by a loud thud and finding his girlfriend had fallen down the stairs and was unconscious.
Tecra, who was the daughter of Keroche Breweries billionaire owners Joseph Karanja (Chairman) and his wife Tabitha Karanja (CEO), was buried at her family’s home in Naivasha, Nakuru County on Saturday, May 16th.
She served as the director of Strategy and Innovation at Keroche Breweries until her demise.
