Kenya’s Dr. Patrick Amoth Elected Vice-President of WHO Executive Board

Kenya’s Director-General of Health Dr. Patrick Amoth has been elected as the new vice-president of the Executive Board of World Health Organization (WHO). 

Amoth, a medical doctor who holds a Master of Medicine in Obstetrics/Gynecology from the University of Nairobi, will serve in the position for a term of two years.

The board is made up of 34 members and its main role is to advise the World Health Assembly and enforce its policies and decisions.

Prior to joining the Health Ministry, Amoth served as Chief Medical Specialist and Senior Deputy Director of Medical Services at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital.

He previously served as Chief Medical Specialist (Gynecology) at Machakos Level 5 Hospital, Kiambu District Hospital, and Kenyatta National Hospital. 

He also worked as Medical Superintendent at Kiambu District Hospital and a specialist at Kisumu Provincial General Hospital. Dr. Amoth has over 20 years’ experience in the medical field.
