Weston Hotel, which is owned by Deputy President William Ruto, is set to be closed indefinitely following the coronavirus outbreak in the country.

In a statement on Thursday, the management of the hotel said they will stop operations from Monday, March 30th until further notice in a bid to minimize the spread of Covid-19.

"We wish to assure you that The Weston Hotel is committed to optimizing care and precautions to minimize the spread of the COVID-19."

"During this period, which is by all accounts unprecedented, we will keep our communication lines open and we will be happy to attend to any concerns or inquiries," the statement reads in part.

The five-star hotel located along Langata Road in Nairobi has a bed capacity of 120.

As of Thursday evening, Kenya had confirmed a total of 31 cases of coronavirus, one recovery, and one death.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the patient died while receiving medication at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi on Thursday.

The 66-year-old Kenyan man, who was suffering diabetes, tested positive for Covid-19 after returning to the country from South Africa, via Swaziland, on March 13th.

@karuga - being ignorant to glaring realities is not a damn excuse. Even the blind and the deaf can see and hear of Ruto’s malaise in stealing public funds and lands tainted under a mirage of a few chicken that lay 3,000,000 eggs every day. Why would anyone be jealous of a thief? Stolen money is cursed!

It surely bothers me when Ruto (a professing Christian) keeps on Looting as if God ain't Watching. But God is PATIENTLY Watching and Waiting for him (Ruto) to repent.

What is unique with closing a hotel build with looted money? Weston should be demolished and the land given back to the rightful owners. Thieves always want to announce themselves to those they regularly still from. Give us a break!

Many hotels have already closed down around the world; they closed over two weeks ago for precautionary measure’s sake.
