Retired President Moi Leaves Nairobi Hospital Two Weeks after Admission

Two weeks after he was admitted to Nairobi Hospital, retired President Daniel Arap Moi was discharged from the facility on Thursday.
The 95-year-old was discharged after his medical team, led by his personal physician Dr. David Silverstein, gave him a clean bill of health, his Press Secretary and official spokesperson Lee Njiru said in a statement.
“The Moi family has expressed gratitude to all those who offered prayers and sent ‘quick recovery’ messages,” read the statement.
Although Njiru did not disclose Moi’s ailment, sources said he developed breathing complications, according to Daily Nation.
Last week, Moi’s family rubbished reports that the former president was in critical condition at the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU), saying he was “alert and conscious of his surroundings.”
“The true position is that Mzee Moi is in hospital being attended to by a professional medical team led by his personal physician, Dr. David Silverstein. He is alert and conscious of his surroundings,” said Njiru.
“However, the family is at the same time displeased with the negative and alarmist reports being peddled by unfeeling individuals and consequently published by sections of the media.”
