Sh72 Million Heist: Police Find Sh1 Million Buried in Cowshed

Detectives from Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday arrested another suspect in connection with the Sh72 million Nairobi West heist.
Bernard Sewanga, a G4S employee, was nabbed by sleuths acting on a tip-off at his newly rented house in Ruiru.
After interrogation, Sewanga led officers to the home of his father-in-law in Lurambi, Kakamega County, where Sh1 million was recovered in a black bag that had been buried in a cow shed.
His arrest came hours after two other suspects were arrested in Machakos County and Sh2.3 million recovered.
John Kamau Mulei was apprehended at Muumaandu, Machakos County and led police to the house of his 60-year-old grandmother Mary Kyalo where the money was recovered.
Mulei is the brother to Bernard Mwendwa, a G4S worker who was arrested on Thursday last week in connection with the robbery that happened on September 5th.
Criminals posing as police officers on escort robbed G4S personnel of Sh72 million that was being transported to different bank ATMs in the city.
The G4S team had collected the cash from the security company’s headquarters on Witu Road with three men who posed as police officers.
When they arrived at Standard Chartered Bank ATM in Nairobi West to reload cash into the machine, the criminals turned on them and transferred Sh72 million into another vehicle before escaping.
Six suspects, including three police officers, were arrested and arraigned in court last week where they were freed on Sh1 million bond.
The six are Chris Mochogu, Dancun Luvuka, Vincent Owuor, Boniface Mutua, Alexender Mutuku and Francis Muriuki.
