Detectives Arrest 11 SIM Card Fraudsters

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested 11 more suspects in the ongoing crackdown on SIM Card swap fraud that saw Kenyans lose millions of shillings.

Two Laptops and more than fifteen thousand assorted SIM cards were recovered during the arrests. DCI said the suspects will be arraigned in court on Monday.

“The suspects will be arraigned in court on Monday,” Office of DCI said in tweet.

Also nabbed during the raid were four Agent Lines, two Safaricom registration books,  Airtel registration book, agent number, hundreds of assorted ATMS, modems and several assorted mobile phones.

“The operation by DCI on simcard fraudsters continues,” read the tweet.

Three Safaricom employees and a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) engineering student were arrested last week and charged with fraud.

The scam involves swapping of subscribers SIM Cards and withdrawing cash from their mobile wallets.
