Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua Wants Kenyans in the Diaspora be Allowed to Vote in 2022 Elections

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua wants all Kenyans in the diaspora be allowed to cast their ballots during the 2022 elections.
Speaking in Gucha, Kisii County on Friday, Mutua said it was unfortunate that the government has continued to deny Kenyans abroad their democratic right of voting.
The outspoken Governor further alleged that a crop of corrupt politicians have been blocking the group from participating in elections, since they know the diaspora community can't vote for them.
"There are some people who know that Kenyans who are overseas will not tolerate corrupt and inactive leaders and so would like to suppress that vital vote," Mutua said.
"Kenyans in the diaspora remit billions of shillings back home and they have a right to vote for their leaders the same way as other foreigners do for their countries while away," he added.
During last year's elections, only Kenyans in East Africa countries; Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and Tanzania were allowed to vote.
However, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati, recently said there are plans to have all Kenyans overseas vote in the next polls.
Mutua has already declared he will be running for presidency in the 2022 elections.
