Immigration Officers Raid Chinese State-Owned TV Station CGTN in Nairobi over Illegal Foreigners

Immigration officials on Wednesday arrested an unknown number of suspected illegal foreigners following a raid at China Global Television Network (CGTN) offices in Nairobi.

The swoop is part of the ongoing crackdown on illegal immigrants in the country following orders issued by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.

In videos shared on social media, the immigration officers are seen bundling employees out of the station’s headquarters located in Nairobi’s Kilimani area.

The officers are said to have stormed the station and ransacked employees as they demanded they produce identification documents and work permits. They searched the building floor to floor.

CGTN Africa is the African bureau of Chinese state broadcaster China Central Television, an English language news channel. It is based in Nairobi and manages bureaus across the continent.

The government is yet to issue a statement on the operation.
