President Uhuru Kenyatta’s trip to the United States starting this Friday has been cancelled, State House has confirmed.
This is after the presidential plane was re-routed back to Nairobi on Thursday night over security fears in Yemen. The plane had been scheduled to fly over the Yemen airspace en-route to Dubai where the president had been scheduled to take an Emirates commercial flight to the United States. “Following reports of increased military activity in Yemen, there was a challenge on the routing leading to a decision to turn back," said State House spokesman Moanoah Esipisu.
The purpose of the president’s trip to the US was to market Kenya as an attractive foreign investment destination at the Milken Institute Global Conference, which takes place April 27th to 30th in Los Angeles, California.
During his trip, the president had also been scheduled to meet with Kenyans in Los Angeles on Friday, Aprial 25th. A 1300-capacity ballroom at Hilton Los Angeles Airport had already been fully booked to capacity by Kenyans who were eagerly anticipating meeting with the president.
