Kenyan Diaspora Peace Initiative

A group of Kenyans in Diaspora met in Baltimore, Maryland on February 24, 2013 to emphasize the need to have peaceful, free, and fair elections in Kenya on March 4, 2013. They encouraged all eligible voters to come out in large numbers and exercise their democratic right to elect the leaders of their choice.  They implored all candidates to exercise outmost restraint by avoiding inciting and irresponsible statements during and after elections.
 
They demanded that the choice of the Kenyan people be respected by all including the International Community. Additionally, the sovereignty of Kenya as a nation and the democratic right of the Kenyan people to elect leaders of their choice should be upheld. They also asked all candidates to accept the outcome of the elections, and in the interest of peace, any disputes should be channeled through the reformed judicial system that enjoys the support and confidence of all Kenyans.
