Mr. Daniel Munyambu has won a council seat on a Labour Ticket for the seat of Vange Ward in Basildon, Essex, UK on the just concluded local elections conducted on Thursday 5th May, 2011. Mr. Munyambu won by 52 per cent of the total votes getting more more votes than three other parties candidates votes combined together. The counting of votes ended about 3.00 a.m. on Friday morning and family and friends celebrated and congratulated Mr. Munyambu.

He is the 2nd councillor to be elected this season after Councillor Elizabeth Kangethe was elected last year during the London council elections. The elections for last year were conducted in London only and other council elections in UK took place yesterday. Interesting enough, Mr. Munyambu comes from Kairi location in Gatundu North - the same location with Councillor Mwaura the Kenyan councillor who was elected in Sweden last year and not forgetting the same area with Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta.

Mr. Munyambu, who is a businessman, is also a student studying BA in Politics, Psychology and Economic. The soft spoken down to earth Kenyan has this advice to Kenyans in the Diaspora "the sky is the limit and they need to awaken-up their visions. - We need more Kenyans MPs and councillors in the diaspora - go for it." Mr. Munyambu concluded. The ward demographic is predominately comprised of people who consider them selves to be White British (96%). The majority of respondents consider themselves to be Christian (72%) although 27% indicated that they were not religious or did not answer the question. The table below breaks down the responses for the remaining faith groups. Latest population estimate for the ward is 9,874*. This shows 3.1% growth in overall population since the 2001 Census.
