Kenyans Face Sentencing For Scamming West Virginia State Agency

Printer-friendly versionSend to friendPDF version

A federal judge is ready to sentence four of six Kenyan nationals who have pleaded guilty in a multimillion-dollar scam that targeted government agencies in at least five states.

The scheme duped those agencies into tranferring more than $3 million owed to legitimate government vendors.

Officials in Massachusetts, Kansas and Ohio recovered their funds. Florida officials caught on before releasing any money. But nearly $1 million from West Virginia was wired to Kenya and lost.

Angella Chegge-Kraszeski and Robert Otiso admit to differing roles in the overall conspiracy. Collins Masese and Paramena Shikanda pleaded guilty to conspiring to laundering the proceeds.

Federal prosecutors are scheduled to discuss the case after the sentencings in Charleston.
