Former Miss Universe Kenya and TV girl Rachel Marete has landed a lucrative job in Los Angeles, US. The beauty is the newest TV host of Transit TV Los Angeles, which is the largest out-of-home network in the world. In an exclusive interview with MondayBlues, an elated Rachel said she was overwhelmed by the news of her new appointment. "I am extremely excited. It was a very competitive spot and it’s amazing I clinched it. I was planning to come home to do a documentary when the good news was delivered and I had to cancel the trip due to my obligation to the network. I am so elated," she said.

Transit Television Network, headquartered Los Angeles, California, is an out-of-home digital network providing information, entertainment and advertising to transit fans across North America. "It’s quite a privilege for me to be a TV host in such a reputable organisation," she added.

The 24-year-old left the country for a six-months modelling contract in Florida in 2007 and ended up in Miami where she enrolled for media studies.

She then started modelling for top fashion brands and eventually started hosting a TV fashion show programme, rubbing shoulders with leading models, filmmakers and music icons like Nicole Milan, Dennis Rodman and Redbull.

"The new deal is really good. It’s another step towards my dreams. I am happy to represent Kenya over here. This should be a motivation to any girl at home who has great ambition," she added.

"I recently shot Burn Notice, a teen film and had a chance to meet Hollywood’s Michael Westin, a man Kenyan girls die for," she concluded.

Rachel is following in the footsteps of Zain Verjee, another Kenyan based in London and currently co-anchor of CNN International’s European morning program, World Report.

Some Kenyans are so jealous. Why can't you just be happy for someone? What Kenyan hasn't heard of Rachel unless they've been in a cave? Maybe you don't recognize her because that's a bad picture of her they've put here but she's been around siunce she won Miss Universe Kenya and was at Miss Universe (I think 2005).

She was a TV host and model here at home and was on billboards, tv ads, papers, all that. She was even in the Miss Africa USA pageant in 07. Just google her!! The rest of us Kenyans are happy for her and she's going places. You guys should be proud. Just coz you are there (in the USA) doing nothing special doesn't mean you should hate on her.

Go Rachel, rep Kenya for us and keep up the good job!!!!! It's a good change from the slutty gold digger models Kenya is used to!

Adhiambo, you mean you are claiming to know each and every model in the huge US of A? Kwendeni huko! Haters. Fact is she's done well for herself and is now on TV in LA whether you like it or not! Hahaha!

Go Rachel. We support you!

Yeah sometimes people get carried away with hate and not liking to see other people other than themselves doing well. I however think that the problem also lies with people like this lady who don't say anything constructive when interviewed on their success, make erroneous statements and then cap it off by showing off about who they have met and how lucky they are to have been close to smell this or that hunk. It cheapens the whole achievement and makes her look like a "blonde" who landed on her feet and does not know how she did it. I am all for people being winners but we need to think beyond the winning stage and manage our images so that we earn the respect of others and not hate. Congrats girl and I hope you do good!

Let's not celebrate mediocrity. That's the biggest problem kenyans have. You become a hater if you challenge anything. Being critical of someone does not make you a hater. There are many many really successful kenyans in LA who don't contact blogs to say they got a gig with a basement network like transit TV. There are Kenyan CEOs at companies making millions. Private investors making millions, real actors...well atleast one I know. point is we are obsessed with celebrity that doesn't exist.Hell I have rubbed shoulders with countless celebrities, this is LA for crying out loud. Not to knock this chicks game but, get out of transit TV and get a gig at CBS or NBC hell even PBS!. Fact is no one watches transit tv.. It's broadcasted in buses and trains only. It's one big informercial in bus with like 10 peeps watching. Seriously who uses a bus in LA?. The people saying they have never heard of this chick are right. Never heard of her. Let's aim big and do stories about real success not mediocrity imitating success. At this gig this chick doesn't make even 60k a year. Why is this a story?.Before you ask, am one of those successful ones and you'll never see a story about me. Good luck to this chick but get out of transit tv asap.

Hey guys. Honestly Rachel is my cousin and I can tell you she is very intelligent. I asked her about this interview and she said that she was misquoted as far as the Burn notice being a "teen film" and Kenyan girls dying for him. She is usually very articulate and eloquent and anyone who's met her knows that! If you know anything about Kenyan Journalists it's that you can only give them your best interview and hope that they are writing down exactly what you are saying. Very very few use tape recorders and will usually write their own things. My dad is a politician. I know. Also that pic is not the best of her. i remember it was the first shoot she ever did when she was still a teenager or something. She is much prettier. As proof, here is recent a video of hers from youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lahWlbfcCOw. Also, as far as I know she doesn't only work for Transit TV, she does a lot of stuff on red carpets and free lance as well. Either way so what? Transit TV is a big achievement that most Kenyans don't get and to the guy above, their website says they reach a million viewers a day in Los Angeles so if that is nothing to you then I don't know what is. Also as far as pay, I'm sure she isn't starving! Rachel, you are our pride and joy and you keep going higher and higher. Some Kenyans love to hate and bring people down whenever they are doing something different like the guy above. We love you and you make us proud so keep taking that Kenyan flag higher baby gal! Na uke musyi taundu itukumiss!
