Kenyan Passports Renewal Rule Changes In The Americas

Printer-friendly versionSend to friendPDF version

To all Kenyans in the Americas (U.S.A, Canada, Brazil, Latin America and South America) Exciting news!

With effect from Monday, March 15th 2010, the Kenya Embassy in Washington D.C now issues brand new passports, Ordinary and Diplomatic, without anymore reference to Nairobi.

We therefore wish to inform Kenyans in the Diaspora that the Embassy has now stopped renewing 5 year passports (to comply with current immigration regulations in Kenya). Anyone whose passport is expired should therefore make arrangements to apply for a new passport which will now be issued at the Embassy.

We further wish to remind Kenyans that the Embassy of Kenya in Washington D.C is no longer issuing “A” series (32 Page) and “B” series (48 Page) Passports. Anyone who wishes to obtain a new Kenya passport should therefore apply for a “C” series (64 Page) passport the cost of which is US $150.

Similarly anyone who wishes to do a name change either through marriage, divorce or deed poll should also apply for a new passport at the Embassy.

As always, you may apply for a new passport 6 months before expiry.

64 pages sounds like a waste of paper especially for those of us who do not travel that much. By the time I have to renew it after 10 years, it might still be looking so empty. On the other hand, the frequent travels have all the visa pages necessary. It really doesn't matter... Just a comment, as they say my two cents worth.

I got my new one recently...took just about three weeks. You only need to send in the old one and the necessary fees...and of course a self adressed, stamped envelope for them to send you the new ppt. It is certainly a good move by the embassy.

So i was looking at the requirements and it says that one has to have their birth certificates.... etc etc. That's inconveniencing especially if you don't have it here with you :/
