Kenyan Man with No Relatives in US, Omar Mmubango Passed Away in Pennsylvania in February – Urgent Appeal for Funds

On the evening of Sunday March 5th, 2017, we learned of the death of a Kenyan man, Omar Mmubango who lived in the Philadelphia area of Pennsylvania. A victim of cancer, Omar died on February 9, 2017 while undergoing treatment at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania

Regrettably, Omar had no family or relatives in the US, and may have kept much to himself for no one (Kenyan) seems to know him. Omar had given the Hospital contact info of his sole daughter in Kenya who was promptly contacted to collect the body. Omar's family were completely at a loss and unable to raise funds. After a month of trying, they had only mobilized KSh. 60,000. A Kenyan lady, unrelated to the deceased, approached one of us seeking a word of advice that could be offered to this family. The family were unsuccessful in generating financial support from the Kenyan Embassy in Washington, DC. They had also reached out to some individual Kenyans in the diaspora whose contact information they obtained from social media message boards.

This case is a little complicated for we are not able to retrace his contacts and engagements in Philadelphia area.

Omar's body is lying at the temporary university morgue. We have been informed that unless it's claimed by Friday, March 10, 2017, the Hospital will release the body to the Medical Examiner's Office for disposal.

Like yourself, we did not know Omar but would like to help this grieving family receive the remains of their dear one.

We are counting on your support and goodwill to help do the following:

  1. Move the body to a funeral home before it's too late.
  2. Help raise funds to send the body to his family in Kenya.

For the first time: I dare to Stand Corrected on the following question:. Where in Kenya does the late (Mmubango) come from? This question may sound QUESTIONABLE but it can help in this situation. I hate vague Information about Situations Like This (involving GoFundMe).

There should be no Kenyan with No Relatives in the USA. In the USA, as is elsewhere, relatives are the fellow Kenyans in your neighborhood, city, county, state etc. Relatives are built and cultivated over a period of time, everyday and continuously. We must be intentional. Nobody walks through life alone. Nobody should. We must do life with fellow Kenyans for they are the real brothers and sisters.

Who is the daughter and the family member's mentioned here ?
We need info so we can help otherwise this could be another one of those scams for all I know and care.
Where in Kenya does he hail from and who was contacted and turned down their help request at the Kenyan Embassy in DC ?

Omar official names are Omar Murunga Mmubango and he hailed from Ekama in Mumias. He's been living here for almost 3/4 of his life around 40 years. The late was a very private gentleman who's social circle was a few individuals whom we honestly don't know. He resided in Philly and when he died, his personal belongings remained with the hospital. I personally was called by my father back in Nairobi to go confirm if it's true he's dead and I drove all the way to PA and found out its true. So finance has been an issue ever since trying to raise almost $12,000 to have him flown home but with the help of other good will Kenyans who didn't even know him, we have reached 50% of our total contribution. We need another $6,000 to have him sent home to his own home to rest. If you have any inquiries, questions or concerns please feel free to let me know and al be more than glad to clarify anything
