Lawyer Allen Waiyaki Gichuhi has been elected as the new President of Law Society of Kenya (LSK) following Thursday's elections.
Gichuhi emerged the winner after garnering 2,675 votes, trouncing his challenger James Aggrey Mwamu, a Kisumu-based lawyer and former East Africa Law Society chairman, who got 2,145 votes in 38 polling stations across the country. The poll was marred by low voter turnout.
Gichuhi is a commercial litigation advocate with more than 20 years experience and describes himself as a reformist. He is an adjunct lecturer at the Kenya School of Law, where he teaches the practice of litigation.
"Our work will be to reconcile members who are divided politically, we need to hold talks on mending fences and the need to agree on healing," said Gichuhi.
Ms. Harriett Chiggai, a legal manager at the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), was elected the body's vice president.
The election was supervised by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). Gichuhi succeeds Isaac Okero, who has been at the helm of LSK since 2016.

Congrats Allen!
Don't know him, but congrats all the same. Hope he will avoid the partisanship shown by his predecessor Okero and stick to the LSK mandate.
Congratulations Allen! Remember you from the late 90's commuting from Thika and ever so friendly and respectful. God bless you and guide you in your new role
