Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka now claims that the Government plans to withdraw his remaining security only a week after his bodyguards were recalled.
The National Super Alliance presidential running mate said that two remaining security guards have already been notified that their services will to the leader will be withdrawn soon.
Speaking in Kitui County on Saturday, the former Vice President accused the government of attempting to intimidate the opposition by denying them security. “I went to Tseikuru (Kalonzo’s rural home), where I discovered that two of my security officers had already been notified that they will be redeployed elsewhere.
This comes just a week after recalling officers who were moving around with me,” said Kalonzo.
Last week, security details attached to both Kalonzo and Raila were withdrawn and have not been reinstated up to date.
Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary said that the officers attached to the two will not be reinstated, stating that the government will not provide security to individuals who continue to threaten it. “Why should we give you 20 police officers to loiter from press conference to press conference, from hotel to hotel, when they are needed elsewhere?” he asked.
He added: “Why should you carry around a whole platoon of police officers to go and commit a crime; to evict constitutional office holders?” “We are not going to run the security of this country on the basis of threats.”
